Stellantis has announced the export of the Peugeot 408 from its Gurun plant in Malaysia to Taiwan, marking the third Asian market for the locally-assembled model following Thailand in 2024 and Cambodia in 2025. The export variant features an updated 1.6-litre PureTech turbo engine meeting Euro 6 standards, delivering 225 hp with a 168 kg kerb weight. Supported by a 1.5 million euro investment, the Gurun facility has undergone manufacturing line upgrades, including specialised R&D for powertrain calibration and localised parts development. Isaac Yeo, MD of Stellantis ASEAN, stated the company is transforming Gurun into a key regional hub, targeting exports of 280,000 vehicles to 20 Asia Pacific countries by 2028. The plant is capable of producing full EVs, ICE models, and mild hybrids, and will also commence CKD assembly of Leapmotor EVs, starting with the C10 SUV following a dedicated 5 million euro investment.
