According to data from the Malaysia Zero Emission Vehicle Association (MyZEVA), from 2021 to June 2024, a total of 27,382 electric vehicles (EVs) were registered in Malaysia, including 17,244 units registered online via the Road Transport Department (JPJ). Kuala Lumpur leads the nation with 5,271 EV registrations, followed by Selangor (1,544 units), Penang (815 units), and others. The number of EV charging bays has also increased in tandem with EV adoption, with 2,606 EV charging bays in Malaysia as of June 2024. Selangor has the most EV charging bays at 876, followed by Kuala Lumpur (674). Although EVs are more cost-effective to operate than fuel vehicles, the longer charging time and the availability of charging stations remain concerns for potential EV owners.
