Hycan Electric Vehicles Set to Enter the Malaysian Market
Hycan, the new energy vehicle brand established by GAC Group and NIO, plans to introduce its all-electric vehicle models to the Malaysian market in the first quarter of 2025. Hycan has appointed a Malaysian company, Concept Fields, as the general agent for the brand in Malaysia and international markets, responsible for import, sales, and after-sales services. The first batch of models is expected to arrive in February or March 2025, including the Z03 SUV, A06/A06 Plus sedans, and V09 MPV. Initially, they will be imported as CBU units, with plans to switch to CKD local assembly around April. Hycan is currently in talks with various companies to explore assembly options and is working on the conversion from LHD to RHD for the incoming models.

Mercedes-Benz and Factorial Unveil New Solid-State Battery Solstice, Aim for Mass Production by 2030
Mercedes-Benz and US-based battery startup Factorial Energy have made significant progress in developing a new solid-state battery called Solstice, which is expected to be mass-produced by 2030. The battery has an energy density of up to 450Wh/kg and could increase the range of electric vehicles by 80%, reaching about 1000 kilometers. The Solstice battery uses a sulfide-based solid electrolyte system, which remains stable at temperatures above 90°C, reducing the need for cooling systems, enhancing safety, and lowering costs. Mercedes-Benz has already begun testing the B-samples of the Solstice battery and plans to apply it to its next-generation electric vehicles in the coming years.
