Porsche Cayenne Electric is officially launched in Malaysia with SUV and Coupé variants. Built on PPE platform, it features dual-motor AWD, 113kWh battery pack, max 669km WLTP range and 390kW ultra-fast charging, marking the brand's third all-electric model.

China's mandatory national standard for autonomous driving safety requirements (GB 44721—2026) has been approved and will take effect on July 1, 2027. The standard applies to vehicles with L3 and L4 highly automated driving systems (Class M and N), excluding automatic parking systems. It requires automakers to establish lifecycle safety guarantees covering product design, manufacturing and post-deployment, ensuring the autonomous system achieves safety levels at least equivalent to a competent driver without posing unreasonable risks. The standard specifies dynamic driving task requirements across scenarios and minimum risk strategy triggers. Human-machine interaction must include clear activation/deactivation prompts, and L3 systems require driver takeover monitoring. Compared to the UN ADS GTR, China's standard provides more detailed technical requirements tailored to its road traffic environment.

Changan has announced that the Qinyuan Q06 will begin pre-sales on September 4. Positioned as a mid-size SUV on the SDA Tianxun architecture with a 2,940mm wheelbase, it features the Taihang distributed electric drivetrain. The exterior adopts a floating-light aesthetic with a closed grille, ring-style LED light bar and three-piece air intakes. The chassis uses a full-aluminum front double-wishbone and rear five-link suspension. Spy shots of the all-new BYD Seagull have surfaced online. The model has completed China's MIIT registration, with overall length increasing by 425mm to 4,205mm and wheelbase extended by 150mm to 2,650mm—placing it very close to the Dolphin in size. The exterior adopts a fresh design language featuring a closed-off front grille with layered creases and polygonal headlight clusters, semi-flush door handles, gloss-black alloy wheels and hidden B/C/D pillars. The rear end debuts new taillight styling with an aggressive diffuser. With the current model's price range of 69,800-85,900 yuan, the new Seagull is expected to launch this year as BYD's next entry in the premium compact EV segment.

Jaguar Land Rover has announced a major adjustment to its off-road electrification timeline, deferring the all-electric Defender to the 2030s with no fixed launch date. The primary reason is that the current-generation Defender, launched in 2019, has significantly outperformed expectations with annual sales stabilizing around 110,000 units—representing one-third of JLR's global volume—and remains in the peak phase of its product lifecycle. Additionally, the existing platform cannot accommodate battery-electric powertrains, necessitating a costly all-new architecture, while the 15 percent US tariff on Slovak-assembled Defenders adds further financial pressure. The company has decided to prioritize harvesting the current model's market momentum rather than committing to high-risk EV investment. Notably, the compact "Baby Defender" program remains unaffected, though its originally BEV-exclusive EMA platform has been revised to support hybrid variants. GWM Malaysia announced at GATE 2026 that the Haval H7 and Ora 5 HEV will be locally assembled (CKD) in Malaysia. The Haval H7 targets the boxy off-road SUV segment as a direct rival to the Jetour T2, measuring 4,800/1,950/1,843mm with a 2,738mm wheelbase; the range-topping Hi4 PHEV variant pairs dual motors with a 1.5L turbo engine for 370PS/750Nm combined, hitting 0-100km/h in 6.2 seconds with a 27.54kWh LFP battery delivering 115km WLTP EV range and 1,000km total range. The Ora 5 HEV is a B-segment crossover at 4,471/1,833/1,641mm with a 2,720mm wheelbase, running the Hi2 hybrid system for 226PS/476Nm combined, 0-100 in 7.7 seconds and over 1,100km WLTP range. The Ora 5 HEV launches in H2 2026, with the Haval H7 Hi4 PHEV following in early 2027. GWM is leveraging CKD localization to strengthen its presence in Malaysia's hard-core off-road and fuel-efficient family segments.
