China's mandatory national standard for autonomous driving safety requirements (GB 44721—2026) has been approved and will take effect on July 1, 2027. The standard applies to vehicles with L3 and L4 highly automated driving systems (Class M and N), excluding automatic parking systems. It requires automakers to establish lifecycle safety guarantees covering product design, manufacturing and post-deployment, ensuring the autonomous system achieves safety levels at least equivalent to a competent driver without posing unreasonable risks. Human-machine interaction must include clear activation/deactivation prompts, and L3 systems require driver takeover monitoring. Changan has announced that the Qinyuan Q06 will begin pre-sales on September 4. Positioned as a mid-size SUV on the SDA Tianxun architecture with a 2,940mm wheelbase, it features the Taihang distributed electric drivetrain. Genesis unveiled at its Investor Day that the brand's first extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) SUV will launch in Q1 2027, marking a strategic pivot from an EV-only approach to a multi-powertrain lineup. Spy shots have emerged of the Lexus RX Morizo RR, a high-performance variant developed by Toyota GAZOO Racing. Jaguar Land Rover has announced a major adjustment to its off-road electrification timeline, deferring the all-electric Defender to the 2030s with no fixed launch date. The primary reason is that the current-generation Defender, launched in 2019, has significantly outperformed expectations with annual sales stabilizing around 110,000 units—representing one-third of JLR's global volume—and remains in the peak phase of its product lifecycle.
