BYD has launched its first plug-in hybrid in Japan—the Sealion 6 DM-i SUV. Priced from ¥3.982 million (≈RM 105k) for the FWD and ¥4.488 million (≈RM 119k) for the AWD, it undercuts key rivals like the Toyota Harrier and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEVs by up to ¥1.5 m. The FWD pairs an 18.3 kWh battery (100 km EV range) with a 197 PS/300 Nm e-motor and a 98 PS 1.5 NA engine, returning 22.4 km/L WLTC. The AWD adds a rear motor for 367 PS/550 Nm total, boosted by a 1.5 turbo petrol unit. Deliveries start end-January 2026 for FWD and March for AWD; Thailand already lists the model and Malaysia is next.
