The Land Rover Freelander is set to return, with production expected to start at the Chery-JLR factory in Changshu, China, by the end of 2026. The new model will feature plug-in hybrid power and be developed on Chery's T1X platform, which supports various wheelbase and body size adjustments. Designed by Land Rover's Chief Creative Officer, the new Freelander will adopt a youthful and dynamic design inspired by high-performance SUVs like the Porsche Macan. It is expected to use the same PHEV system as the Starway YaoGuang C-DM, with a combined power output of 455kW, peak torque of 920 Nm, a pure-electric range of 200km, and a total range of 1400km. Positioning itself as an independent electric brand, the Freelander will target the mid-to-high-end new energy market (priced between 300,000-500,000 RMB). It will debut in China at the end of 2026 and be exported to Europe and the Middle East the following year.
