Geely Riddara Thailand is evaluating plans for a local EV production facility following its October 2024 market entry with the RD6 electric pick-up. General manager Cao Feng expressed confidence in the long-term growth potential of BEV pick-ups despite current market slowdowns, citing superior energy efficiency over fossil fuel counterparts. EP Manufacturing Berhad (EPMB) has commenced production of the MG S5 EV at its Pegoh, Melaka Plant 2, marking SAIC's first locally-assembled model in Malaysia. The MG S5 EV targets monthly output of 120-180 units, with annual production estimated at 1,500-2,000 units this year, including exports to ASEAN and left-hand-drive markets.
