On March 5, 2025, the third session of the 14th National People’s Congress opened, with Premier Li Qiang delivering the Government Work Report. The report highlighted an 8.9% and 7.7% increase in value added by high-tech manufacturing and equipment manufacturing in 2024, with new energy vehicle production exceeding 13 million units. For 2025, the government will focus on developing intelligent and connected new energy vehicles, supporting large model applications, expanding 5G scale, accelerating industrial internet innovation, and optimizing the layout of computing power resources to build a globally competitive digital industry cluster.

US New Car Sales Reach 15.9 Million in 2024, a Five-Year High
In 2024, new car sales in the US reached 15.9 million units, up 2.2% year-on-year, marking a five-year high. BYD Dynasty Launches 2026 Song L, Song Pro & Qin L DM-i, All Claim 1,000 km+ Range
On 23 Oct BYD Dynasty released the 2026 Song L DM-i (RM 89-100k), Song Pro DM-i (RM 66-81k) and Qin L DM-i (RM 62-68k). All three adopt 5th-gen DM hybrid, offer up to 200 km electric and 1,630-2,148 km total range, consume as little as 2.79 L/100 km with flat battery, and add standard Yunjian-C dampers, multi-link rear suspension, column shifter and cool/heat fridge, boosting their value proposition.

Volvo Adds Aurora Silver to 2026 XC90 Palette at No Extra Cost
Volvo Car Malaysia’s 2026 XC90 gains Aurora Silver in place of Vapour Grey at no cost. The Ultra T8 PHEV (462 PS, 77 km EV range) is priced at RM434,888, while the mild-hybrid Ultra B5 (249 PS) lists at RM418,888. BYD Adds Petrol to Popular Atto 2: New DM-i PHEV Offers 90 km EV & 1,020 km Total Range
Faced with cooling EV demand, BYD will launch the Atto 2 DM-i in Europe: a 1.5 L Atkinson-based PHEV delivering 90 km WLTP electric and 1,020 km total range. Outputs span 184–212 PS paired with 10–19 kWh LFP packs. World premiere is this week in Luxembourg, Q1 2026 deliveries; Malaysian CKD assembly likely H2 2026.
